Give Conference Speaker Spotlight: Jason Daughdrill

Church leaders everywhere are overwhelmed with the thought, “How can I build a generous church?”

Both churches big and small, from east to west, across all denominations ask this question. So how do you do it? You equip yourself with the correct tools, connections, and resources to build a generous church. This is why we created Give Conference.

This is a unique event for you to connect with other pastors that are like you and learn from leaders who have been where you’ve been. You’ll walk away with an actionable plan on how to cultivate a culture of generosity in your church. You’ll be resourced and equipped with knowledge unlike any other event.

SecureGive is excited to introduce Jason Daughdrill, Lead Pastor at Gateway Church in Shelbyville, Tennessee. He will be speaking at this year’s Give Conference on God’s faithfulness through giving.

We had the chance to sit down with him this week to get a few early pieces of advice on how to encourage your congregation to embrace biblical principals:

1. Why are you excited about the Give Conference?

I have experienced the power of Biblical generosity and stewardship deeply in my own life. And as a result, I truly believe a conference dedicated to equipping leaders, so they can in turn equip the Body of Christ, is an amazing thing!

2. Can you share a time that you’ve experienced God’s faithfulness in your church pertaining to generosity and finances?

At the beginning of 2020 (Pre-covid), we were hit with a string of facility expenses. Our reserve was the lowest it had been in years, which would have been catastrophic going into what we would later experience as Covid-19.

In January, we had to make a decision to expand and do outreach for the community, or lock it down financially. We decided to keep doing ministry, and the next week God had two people drop off checks that doubled our reserves. It was a miracle for us! Trust in God and He will provide abundantly.

“A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” –Proverbs 11:25

3. What is some advice you would share with another pastor on encouraging their congregation to give and discipling attendees on the biblical principle of giving?

If you are comfortable talking about generosity, your congregation will be comfortable listening. Likewise if you’re not comfortable talking about generosity, your congregation will not be comfortable listening.

Don’t apologize for asking God’s people to do what God’s Word commands.

Don’t apologize for asking God’s people to do what God’s Word commands.

Model the way, without being flashy about it. Just live a generous lifestyle and it will spread. It’s contagious!

Don’t use gimmicks. People see through it. Authenticity is your friend.

Tithing isn’t a “law issue”… it pre-dates the giving of the law. It’s a covenant issue. Make sure your people know that. Some well-meaning people are teaching against tithing, and your people will hear it. Equip them with truth.

4. What are you hoping that church leaders take away from Give Conference?

I don’t just hope but am confident that church leaders will take away creative ways to authentically lead God’s people into a generous lifestyle of Biblical stewardship.

Building a generous church can be overwhelming and it’s not something that just happens over night. But cultivating a culture of generosity is crucial to the impact your church can have. And that’s why SecureGive wants to help. At Give Conference, you’ll be resourced with everything you need to cultivate a culture of generosity in your church. This is a conference you don’t want to miss.
